With the arrival of April the race is upon us! Press releases went out today to newspapers and television stations. Teams received information packets containing rules and regulations, scoring rules and procedures, and The Responsible Travelers Creed.
The event will be operated on the Honor System, with teams documenting their completion of scavenges through the use of photos, videos, receipts, ticket stubs, etc. But all claims of completion will be verified by a Peer Review Committee and Road Officials. Cheating will be taken very seriously, with loss of points and even possible elimination.
We will not be allowed to do any advance research or preparation. Once scavenges have been revealed, then and only then can teams begin to gather any information necessary. We are strictly forbidden from using computers, smart phone apps, gps's, local guide books, hotel employees, or "phone-a-friend" lifelines! Engaging local people in figuring out our solutions is what this event is all about. Trusting strangers in strange lands is the concept behind the Global Scavenger Hunt. This results in participants being immersed in local cultures and stepping outside their comfort zone. "Sight-doing" is very different than sight-seeing... and sight-doing is what's in store for us!
