Day one started with a bang at 0900. We were given our very first list of "Scavenges" to complete in Seoul. David and I decided to begin by getting a T-Money Card... this is used on the buses, subways, and cabs. After several very confusing minutes with a clerk, this very nice fellow helped us.
We purchased our cards, loaded them with (what we thought would be) the appropriate amount of money, and were on our way!
Several of today's scavenges had us discovering many of the ancient palaces and shrines of the Korean royalty.
Another area we explored was the Insa-dong district, with its colorful little street antique shops, calligraphy shops, quaint tea houses and lots and lots of art galleries. This is a clip of some really cute local candy makers.
One assignment had us search for a toy store selling old comic book characters. We found Toto's Old Goods in Insadong.
Narrow alleyways wound throughout this part of Seoul, and trying to find our own way meant getting lost... luckily, there was always a helpful local nearby.
We ate lunch at a small local restaurant down a side street in Insa-dong. It featured North Korean style fare and we tried dumpling soup and "pancake" that was more like an omelet. BTW... Coke tastes just as good in Korea.
This day was long and exhausting. We were extremely inefficient. Hoping for a better tomorrow!

Congrats on getting through the first day! All the people here in Jxn that I've told about your adventure are enthralled and following your blog! Looking forward to more updates!

ReplyDeleteThe first day is the toughest, you'll get into a groove, start running on adreneline. Sleep, who needs it. You will have an amazing adventure.
